Bhumibol Adulyadej - the King of Thailand

When you go to Bangkok, you’ll find giant portraits of this man.
His name is Bhumibol Adulyadej: the King of Thailand. He was born in the United States and is the longest reigning monarch in Thai history.
The people of Thailand love him. “Do you love him?” I asked a girl I met. “Yes,” she said. “Of course. I love him.”
“Do you love him?” I asked our tour guide. “Yes,” she said. “Of course. I love him.”
According to the people we spoke to, Bhumibol is loved because he’s humble. Although he’s been reported to be insanely wealthy, he walks with the needy. He eats simply. His own dog is an adopted street dog. He invests heavily into the lives of the poor. He spends a considerable amount of time helping his people become self sufficient.
Such is his influence that he stopped a student uprising in 1973, a military coup in 1981, another military coup in 1985, and another violent military street protest in 1992. There is so much reverence for him that the people wear bracelets with his name, they wear shirts with pictures of his dog.
Bhumibol is a much better king than Jughead.
