FIRST TIME SNOW
August 11th 2009 05:50
Something changed when I saw snow for the first time in my life. We drove to the countryside for a scenic trip, and for the first few days I was worried because there was no sign of the white. But a Tuesday Dusk came and changed things. I was with Natalie and my host sister and we were driving up a mountain and all of a sudden, on the sidewalk, we spotted ice. I looked upwards: snow was falling.
We stopped near the top of the mountain, near about a thousand trees all standing apart from each other. I hopped the hell out of my car. White was falling everywhere. It hovered down and covered trees, phone lines, rooftops. The snow was light, it was dead skin, I would call it beautiful. I took my glove off and held my hand out and watched some of it fall. I’m not one to be over sentimental about scenery, but I’d wanted to see snow since I was four years old. My mother would always brag to me about it, she'd brag and brag and brag.
I had a few days left in Japan. Soon, I’d be returning to Brisbane.
Natalie peered at me from her car seat.
“What, you’ve never seen snow before?”
“Come out!” I yelled at her.
“I bet you’ve got shrinkage,” she laughed, stepping out of the car and running towards me. “It’s so cold out I bet your schlong is smaller than my thumbnail.”
I kissed her. The snow fell. She kissed back.
