TREVOR AND THE HOMELESS GUY
November 11th 2008 17:32
And so I met up with another guy who received the scholarship to Japan who’ll also be travelling with me around some highlights for a week before the program starts: Trevor, a tall, slim Indian guy who you know gets a lot of women. He’s an intellect, too, one of those people who can win any argument because they know that one bit more than you do.
“So you’re a writer, eh, Dean?”
“A hungry, failing one.”
He looked me up and down. “You read any of Kelman’s work?”
“The Scottish guy?”
Trevor grinned. “Check this out.” We were walking from the University into the city. There was a homeless guy there. Trevor nodded to him and he shyly smiled back.
“Hey, Trev, man.”
“This is Dean. Dean, this is Zone.”
I shook his hand. Zone looked frightened and ready to kill at the same time. But he was friendly to me nonetheless.
“Zone, read Dean some of your poetry.”
“No, man, not today.”
“Come on, Zone, just read him some of it.” Trevor looked at me. “He’s a brilliant poet, a true writer.”
“No, not today, Trev. Today’s just not today.”
“Please, Zone, just do it.”
“No, today’s not today.”
“Come on, Zone,” Trevor insisted. “Stop being shy. It’s moving stuff and you know it.”
“I said no, you fucking dickhead. I FUCKING SAID NO! Fucking shitting cunt! You fucking little cunt!”
“Alright, alright, fine, Zone! Far out! Calm down! Far out, Zone!”
Zone muttered something that I couldn’t understand.
The three of us walked to a pub, where Trevor treated us to a Guinness each. We drank in silence for a while.

A well crafted piece, Dean.
I think next time I'll just look at the pictures, your art is improving.

I managed to compress the swearing down to one sentence - I'm getting a LITTLE bit better, right? Just trying to keep true to the language of the real world.
I'm grateful for your compliment, but it was just a drunken little sketch. Nothing compared to the art I've seen you do.

No, he never did. I guess I respect him all the more. True artists needn't the approval of others, I've figured.

I shall try my best to keep you updated. In the mean time, keep the porn hidden, the music high and leave the pretentiousness with the pretentious.
